They plan to move to more flexible solutions and take into account the needs of communities in wartime.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is working to modernise the school transport system, adapting it to the conditions of war and the real needs of communities.
This issue was discussed during a working meeting with representatives of the authorities, parliament, specialised institutions and transport manufacturers. The main goal is to make transportation logistics more efficient, taking into account local peculiarities and changes in the network of educational institutions.
Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi emphasised that the current approach needs to be revised. In particular, in communities with a small number of students or difficult road conditions, large buses are often not an effective solution. Instead, wider use of small vehicles is being considered.
In the near future, the Ministry of Education and Science plans to collect information from communities to determine the need for different types of school transport, taking into account capacity, traffic and other characteristics.
The Ministry also intends to review the mechanisms for using the state subvention for the purchase of buses. In particular, they are considering the possibility of purchasing M2 category vehicles adapted for the safe transportation of children, as well as a more accurate distribution of funding in accordance with the real needs of communities.
The purpose of the changes is to make education accessible to children regardless of their place of residence and infrastructure conditions.
