The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has set the duration of the 2026/27 academic year for general secondary education institutions.
The government adopted the relevant resolution, «On the start of the academic year during martial law in Ukraine», on 1 July 2026.
According to the decision, the school year begins on 1 September and may run until 30 June 2027.
At the same time, these dates are indicative and serve as a general framework. In other words, the academic year may end earlier, and the specific dates for its conclusion are usually determined at local level, taking into account the structure of the academic year, school holidays, the security situation and decisions made by education authorities.
In addition, the government has instructed the regional and Kyiv City military administrations, in conjunction with the founders of educational institutions, to organise the start of the academic year, taking into account the security situation in each individual administrative-territorial unit.
