The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft Law «On Child Friendly Justice», which proposes to eliminate secondary schools and vocational schools for social rehabilitation.
According to the draft law, it is proposed to entrust the functions of social rehabilitation of children in conflict and in contact with the law to centres for social and psychological rehabilitation of children.
According to Oleksandr Banchuk, Deputy Minister of Justice, the methods of social and psychological work with children currently placed in social rehabilitation schools and a significant number of children in social and psychological rehabilitation centres who have similar, but unidentified, experience of illegal behaviour have many common features.
«That is why the draft law proposes to provide for the possibility of working with such children in one institution,» explains the deputy minister.
He also said that the application of the draft law would help bring justice for children closer to international standards.
«We will be able to create conditions to ensure the legality, validity and effectiveness of every decision regarding a child in conflict with the law, as well as to protect the rights of child victims and child witnesses. In addition, we will be able to strengthen the positive elements of the existing system of bodies and services for children and reform ineffective or inefficient components,» said Banchuk.
