The global research and advisory centre QS Quacquarelli Symonds has published its annual list of 450 best universities in emerging Europe and Central Asia.
This year's QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings include 41 higher education institutions from Ukraine, which is 16 more than last year.
Ten indicators are taken into account to compile the QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings: academic reputation of the university, its reputation among employers, the ratio of teachers to students, the number of publications per teacher and staff member, the number of citations per publication, the share of foreign teachers and staff, the share of foreign students, the share of teachers and staff with a degree, the depth of international scientific collaborations and the presence of the institution in the online environment.
According to Ben Sauter, Director of the QS Quacquarelli Symonds analytical centre, the number of Ukrainian higher education institutions among the best in Eastern Europe and Central Asia has increased to 41, which is an absolute record in the history of this regional ranking.
At the same time, Ukraine's presence in the top 100 universities decreased from four to three against the background of a general decline in their reputational and scientometric indicators.
The list of the top 100 universities in this year's ranking includes 3 Ukrainian institutions: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv - 35th place (33rd place in 2021), National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Sikorsky» - 63rd place (66th place in 2021) and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University - 69th place (67th place in 2021).
In total, 16 universities entered the ranking for the first time, 4 universities improved their positions compared to last year and 7 universities maintained their positions compared to last year.
