Young teachers have a positive impact on increasing children's interest in learning.
This is stated in the results of the Training Assessment Project study on teacher training conducted as part of the World Bank's global education programme, Systemic Approach to Improving Educational Outcomes.
The authors of the study note that the increase in interest in learning is due to the use of innovative teaching approaches by young teachers, their friendly attitude to students, etc.
«Respondents note the positive impact of young teachers on increasing children's interest in learning through the use of innovative teaching approaches, friendly attitudes towards pupils, etc.», the study says.
At the same time, school principals name the following as the main reasons for the shortage of young staff in schools: lack of motivation, prejudice against young teachers, and the presence of a large number of private schools with much higher salaries.
In addition, the majority of respondents point to the importance of teachers' lifelong self-education to introduce new methods and approaches to teaching and to update their knowledge and skills.
The most popular programmes in Ukraine are those developed by non-governmental organisations (about 260,000 students in 2019/2020 or 2020/2021) and by Institutes of Postgraduate Teacher Education (about 215,000 students), due to the relevance of the topics and areas offered, as well as the updating of curricula to meet modern needs.
«The most common areas of professional development programmes are the development of professional competences in the field of teaching methods, the use of information and communication and digital technologies in education,» the authors of the study emphasise.
