The advantages of implementing the «Admissions Commission» JSC and a comprehensive information protection system

Today, the admission commissions of Ukrainian higher education institutions started accepting applications from this year’s applicants.

A really hot July is waiting for the employees of the admissions commissions. After all, each 2012 applicant can potentially submit 15 applications: to five higher educational institutions of Ukraine and to three areas (specialties) in each of them. It is expected that, taking into account the graduates of previous years, the number of applicants in 2012 may be about 350 thousand people, so the admission commissions of Ukraine will have to process more than 5 million applications.

A reliable assistant during this period is the automated system «Admission Commission» from the Research Institute of Applied Information Technologies. AC «Admission Commission» has a set of all the necessary functions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the process of admission of students to a higher educational institution.

  • import of applicant data from the certificate database of the OSVITA Information and Production System;

  • work with certificates of the Ukrainian Center for Evaluation of the Quality of Education; (downloading certificate evaluations via the Internet, group validation of certificates);

  • data export to IS «Konkurs»;

  • interaction with the Unified State Electronic Database on Education;

  • downloading data from the student pre-registration system;

  • export to AS «Dekanat» and subsequent ordering of student tickets;

  • flexible setting of accounting for entrance exams;

  • user messaging system in the program itself;

  • configuration of the software according to the characteristics of the university (48 guides);

  • downloading of test results from UTSOYAO.

It is very easy to learn to work with the system, it is built on the techniques and methods of working with a computer familiar to users, and has a convenient and understandable interface. The software documentation provides a detailed description of all features.

The automated system has been actively operated and supported since 2000. Functional capabilities are expanded in accordance with the requirements of the time, regulatory documents of the Ministry of Youth Sports, as well as taking into account the wishes of universities.

In addition, the AC «Admission Commission» is reliable in its work, as it uses modern methods of saving and backing up data.

The protection of personal data of applicants and other confidential information processed in JSC «Admission Commission» is provided by the complex information protection system (ICSI), namely:

  • implementation of the information security policy adopted in the information system (IS);

  • confidentiality, integrity, availability of information during IS operation;

  • preventing the leakage of information with limited access and the loss of physical media containing the specified information;

  • organization of accounting, storage, circulation of information that needs protection, and material media on which it is stored;

  • availability of IS resources for authorized users.

Construction of KSZI creates conditions for processing information in accordance with Art. 8 of the Law of Ukraine «On the Protection of Information in Information and Telecommunication Systems» and the Law of Ukraine «On the Protection of Personal Data».

Thus, the use of the «Admission Commission» developed at the PIT Research Institute and the creation of the CSZI is a reliable way to effectively work with large volumes of information and organize and optimize measures to improve the security of personal data storage and processing.
