The wonderful news for all Russian and Azerbaijani students immediately went viral on the Internet: starting in 2013, they will have the opportunity to use electronic student tickets. The initiators of the introduction of new generation student tickets were the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan.
The joyous euphoria of Azerbaijani and Russian students from waiting for the earliest start of using this unique multifunctional document is quite understandable for students from Ukraine. After all, our students have been using the electronic student card, which has combined the functions of a student identity card, a bank card and a social security card, for six years with pleasure. (For example, Polish students have been using an electronic student ticket since 2007, and Belarusian students — since 2009).
Just then, in September 2006, for the first time in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries, 50,000 students from several Ukrainian universities became participants in the project that started a new era of scientific and technical revolution in the national education system. 6 years ago, they were the first lucky ones to receive student tickets with an unusual chip and truly unlimited possibilities of use.
Since that time, almost 150,000 students from 60 higher educational institutions of the country were able to fully appreciate the advantages of the new document format — because it combined the functions of a student ID card, a bank card, depending on the payment system chosen by the student — NSMEP or VISA, as well as became a tool for accounting for social benefits — railway travel.
